My #TuesdayTips writing tips blog features articles on the writing craft, advice and information about UK policing for crime writers, reviews of writing manuals and TV shows, guest blogs and fictional interviews between authors and their creations (#ConversationsWithTheirCreations).
If you are a writer and have a tip you’d like to share, or fancy submitting a fictional interview between you and one of your characters, I love having guest bloggers! Please email me.

Hello, and welcome to my website!
My name is Paul Gitsham, and I am the creator of the DCI Warren Jones series of novels and standalone thriller, The Aftermath.
The first in the DCI Warren Jones series, The Last Straw, appeared in 2014, and since then the series has expanded to include nine full-length novels and four, shorter, novellas plus a couple of short stories.
The Aftermath is my new standalone thriller. Published in October 2024, it’s available as paperback and eBook.
Outside of my writing I am a former secondary school biology teacher, now an online tutor, with a Ph.D in molecular biology and experience working in laboratories in the UK and Canada.
Along the way, I have also spent time working at a major high-street bank, ensuring that known terrorists and other ne’er do wells weren’t using the bank’s children saving accounts to hide their ill-gotten gains.
To contact me, either use social media or email. Don’t be shy!

I am a proud member of The Crime Writers’ Association, The Crime Reader’s Association, The Society of Authors, International Thriller Writers and The Alliance of Independent Authors.
I am always happy to chat to readers via social media.

Do you want an engaging speaker for a talk?
Would you like to organise a creative writing workshop run by an experienced author with teaching experience?
I offer both!
I especially enjoy library talks, and talks with small groups.
I also offer a range of creative writing workshops, tailored to both adults and young people. As an experienced classroom teacher, I aim to make these classes engaging, inspiring, and most of all fun!
Please Email me to discuss your requirements.
Please note:
For library talks, I don’t charge a fee, just the opportunity to meet readers and ideally sell some books. I am based in Coventry and willing to travel to the surrounding towns/villages. For journeys beyond that I charge mileage at the standard HMRC rate.
For workshops, I will charge a fee plus mileage, to reflect the time and effort put into crafting the lesson.
Alongside my writing, I also tutor secondary school science online.
After 12 years in the classroom, I started working for the Government-funded National Tutoring Programme, teaching GCSE science at all levels (Biology, Chemistry and Physics), in 2021.
I now work for WolfThorn Knight and also take on private clients. I offer a menu of tested lessons covering all levels of GCSE science (Biology, Chemistry and Physics, Higher Tier and Foundation for both Combined Science and Single Sciences).
I also offer fun creative writing classes online.
Please contact me for more information. I offer discounts for block bookings of multiple lessons, and small groups of up to three students (so parents can split costs between them).
In addition to tutoring, I am an experienced examiner with the Pearson/Edexcel exam board, marking both GCSE and iGCSE, so I am able to provide insight into exam technique and what markers are looking for when they mark papers.
I am also a team leader for Pearson’s Remote Invigilation Service, helping deliver secure exam delivery for learners unable to attend a traditional exam centre.
I am fully DBS checked.
